A Humble Tribute to Gustave Flaubert

Dec 11th 2010 at 10:54 PM

This post is a tribute to Gustave Flaubert, Emma Bovary's father. 12 of December 1821 is his date of birth and since I am a fan of French literature, I decided to write some words about this French author.
Every time I read Madame Bovary, I am surprised to see how actual her behavior is. Flaubert's vision was contoured very well in his book.

Emma Bovary is a complex woman, so complex that each one of us can be her in at least a moment of her existence. We tend to judge her, but in the end she paid all her mistakes with dying. But this is not the point. I try to imagine a Madame Bovary of our days. Maybe it is you, the little town girl, full of dreams at the begging of youth. You hope for the best in your life, a good husband, a rich social life, enough money to not be worried for tomorrow. But as we all know, the dreams doesn't always come true and you find yourself confused and depressed. It sounds familiar to you? Then maybe you should stop judging Emma and think to write a new end for her. A happy one.

The world is Grey today. And Gustave Flaubert knew it.
