Sky lanterns can be made from oiled rice paper or butter paper or any non-combustible paper. The working mechanism of sky lanterns is like hot air balloons. The fir inside provides the heat that is required for making the vessel go up in the air. Fuel cells are used to power the sky lanterns. These cells come in many different colors. Sky lanterns also produce light. The light is a candle or wax fuel cell or some other fuel that burns and always flickers.
If you are using sky lanterns for the first time, carefully take it out from the box and hold the cross wires in the center, spin it around to insert air and then gently inflate the lantern. Hold the lantern in the upside down position and attach the fuel cell underneath the cross wires. Now hold the lantern in upright position by the four corners and light the fuel cell from underneath, in a circular motion. Take care as to not to contact the lantern. Once the fuel cell is lit, keep holding the corners. Lower the lantern to the ground and wait till there is enough heat for the lantern to rise.
