3 Things to Consider When Becoming an Egg Donor

Nov 29th 2015 at 2:00 AM

After doing some research on the computer, you may have become interested in donating your eggs. You are a healthy individual who likely meets the eligibility requirements. You know there are some people out there who would love to have a child, but they are simply unable to because of one reason or another. As a result, you may want to do something to help a loving couple or even multiple couples. If you are thinking about becoming an egg donor, there are three things to consider beforehand.

Are you doing it just for the money? There are some women who choose to donate their eggs because they are in need of cash. While you may receive thousands of dollars for these eggs, you want to make sure that you are doing it for the right reasons. It does not hurt to receive some extra cash too, but just make sure that you have other reasons for wanting to do it as well, such as helping a couple who would really like to start their family.

Do you understand the process? Before you become an egg donor, it is a good idea to find out more about the process and what it entails. You may need to visit the clinic to complete paperwork and receive a physical evaluation. There are a lot of different tests involved because they want to make sure that you are in perfectly good health before using your eggs to help someone else with conception. If everything goes over smoothly, you will need to undergo a surgery to have the eggs removed. Some people get scared when they find out this process involves surgery, but there is nothing to worry about. You can talk things over with the physician to ensure you feel comfortable before going through with anything.

Would you like to be a known donor or an anonymous one? Some egg donors are willing to meet with the couple who wants to have a baby. It gives everyone a chance to get to know one another. However, there are plenty of other women who prefer to go through with the process anonymously, which is perfectly fine too. It may not be a decision that you can make in an hour, but it is something to think about for a while before you agree to start donating your eggs.
