Mar 26th 2020 at 1:02 AM

In this guide, you can read how to get to central Rome from the airports.

Check your ticket and see which of Rome's 2 airports you are coming to.

The guide below describes the options at the 2 airports.

Ciampino - GB Pastine

BUS

There are really good bus connections if you choose this mode of travel from the airport to Rome. The bus stop is just outside the arrival terminal in Ciampino.

The Astral runs from the airport to Stazione Ciampino, from where there are trains to Rome. The bus ride takes approx. 5 minutes. The subsequent train ride runs every 10 minutes and takes 12 minutes. The trail ends at Rome's Termini train station.

Astral also runs a route connecting Rome's metro line A, Anagnina station.

Schiaffini is another bus company that also offers transport from Ciampino airport to Roma Termini. The company also has a route that runs into the railway station in Ciampino city. The SITBusShuttle runs directly from the airport to Roma Termini, where it stops at Via Marsala No. 5. The trip takes approx. 30 minutes - be aware that it can easily take longer depending on the time of day. The first bus of the day departs from Ciampino. 07.45 while the last one runs at. 0:15.

The first bus of the day from the Termini train station leaves. 04:30 while the last one runs at. 21:30.

Atac bus numbers 520 and 720 connect to the subway

Bus number 520 runs to Cinecittá and Subaugusta stations while number 720 connects Ciampino to Laurentina Metro Station, line B. The bus runs every twenty minutes. The buses run from the same place. Tickets can be purchased in the Arrivals Hall.

Terravision runs directly between Ciampino and Roma Termini. The trip takes approx. 40 minutes. I've ridden many times with Terravision. Make sure you are well on time for the airport. At Termini, the bus stops in Via Giolitti. It is to the right of the main entrance as you face the railway station.

If you have purchased a ticket in advance and a bus or plane is then delayed, the ticket still applies to the subsequent bus. The ticket is typically cheaper online. Always remember to print the ticket - it is not enough to have it on mobile.

Children under 5 are free. Children from 5 years and up cost as adults.

The first bus of the day departs from Ciampino. 8.15 while the last one runs at. 0.15. The first bus of the day from the Termini train station leaves. 04:30, while the last one runs at. 21.20.

I have made an affiliate agreement with Terravision that will give me a commission if you buy your ticket at Terravision via the link. This income helps cover my expenses for the blog as well as continuing to provide you with the best service in the form of good advice for your trip. Your journey will not be more expensive if you buy through the link.

TRAIN

There is no direct train from Ciampino airport to the center of Rome. As mentioned in the bus section, there is a train connection from Stazione Ciampino to Roma Termini.

TAXI

Taxis will be on your right as you exit the arrivals hall in Ciampino. The municipality of Rome has set a price of 30 Euro to get from Ciampino to an address within the Aurelian wall - central Rome.

Be careful not to run pirated taxis that take even higher amounts. The risk of being cheated is very high. The approved taxis are white and there is “TAXI” on the roof. The price is also 30 Euro if you are going to Stazione Ostiense. It costs 35 Euro to Stazione Tiburtina and 50 Euro to the other airport in Fiumicino.

PRIVATE TAX

An alternative to taxis may be to book your own taxi that will be waiting for you when you land at the airport. That way you avoid queuing to wait for a taxi. This service is offered eg. by Rome Shuttle Limousine.

CAR

Ciampino Airport is only 15 km from Rome. By car it is easy to reach via the Ring Road - Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA) - from here take Via Appia Nuovo towards Ciampino (exit no. 23).

CAR RENTAL

All car rental companies are located at the parking lot P8 in Via Mameli - it takes approx. 10 minutes to go there with luggage. An alternative is to take a free shuttle bus that has a stop just outside the Ciampino arrival area.

After many years of visiting Rome, in the fall of 2019, I wrote “50 unique experiences in Rome”. The e-book (PDF) consists of 50 stories with experiences you can take out and see in the Italian capital. A picture is attached to each experience. For some experiences, the link is where you can read more. See the example in the product gallery by clicking on the image below.

The experiences in this ebook do not necessarily fill the TOP 10 list of sights in Rome. The book is therefore primarily intended for those who have already visited Rome. With these experiences, you do not just follow in the footsteps of all other tourists.

You can download the book in the order confirmation you receive right after payment. The e-book costs DKK 125.
