Aluminum Foam Panel

Aluminum metal foam is a cellular structure consisting of a solid metal as a large volume fraction of gas filled pores. Foam structure is both lightweight and durable with a large surface area to volume ratio. Aluminum Foam can be manufactured applying a variety of methods including advanced metal powder processing and direct foaming of aluminum alloy melts. Complex-shaped foam components and 3D sandwich panels consisting of foam cores and aluminum face sheets can be produced. The application potential of these materials is discussed for various fields, namely crash energy absorption, light-weight construction, and sound or thermal insulation. Ultra-light metal foams became an attractive research field both from the industrial and scientific applications view points.

Closed-cell Aluminum metal foam, in particular aluminum alloy ones can be used as energy-absorption, lightweight, and damping structures in different industrial sectors, detaining an enormous potential when transportation is concerned. Due to their low densities, the foams can float in water .Foams exhibit a reduced conductivity for both electricity and heat. Foams are stable at temperatures up to the melting point. They are non-toxic and incombustible.

Open celled metal foam can be used in heat exchangers, flow diffusion, energy absorption, and lightweight optics. The high cost of the material generally limits its use to aerospace, advanced technology, and manufacturing. Fine-scale open-cell foams are also used as high-temperature filters in the chemical industry. Metal Foam Panels are used in compact heat exchangers to increase heat transfer at the cost of reduced pressure.
