I didn't know they could do that but why not?
This is not a manipulation just a product of complete boredom.

LOL! That is awesome video footage! Thanks for posting the link! Of course, the music adds to the impact of the visual, but that bear's coordination is amazing!

I occasionally see black bears in my backyard. We co-exist fine, respecting each others' space. But if I ever see them picking up sticks like in this video ... I'm outa there for sure! LOL

I believe this is an Asiatic Bear - I wouldn't know that except I just sold a vintage photo of one in a zoo and I researched it to have the information. The white mark on the throat - chest area is the telling mark.

I am glad you liked it. Makes me think of tryouts to be a majorette and I couldn't do as good as him. Maybe they should get him to lead the Thanksgiving day parade. :)

Here is a link to some photos I took of one visiting us this year

Great photos! Looks like you might have had to get a new bird feeder, lol. We've had to replace a couple over the years, thanks to the bears.

I went out in the woods next to our property two summers ago to shoot the bear with my camera ... but when I encountered the bear cubs ... and then spotted the mother bear ... I turned and tried to quickly and silently move away in the opposite direction. Forget the photos!

Did you ever see in movies or cartoons where the character is trying to slip away quietly in the woods? Where they suddenly step on a twig and the loud crack it makes echos through the woods? That's what happened to me! lol. I then turned to look in the mother bear's direction as she turned to look at me! I put my head down and quickly exited the area, imagining bear breath over my shoulder all the way home!

I haven't gone bear hunting with my camera since that experience. lol :-)

Lol ... that is the one time you don't want to be near a black bear. I am glad you got out of there ok. The bird feeder actually stood up to those huge paws and claws. It is really strong and heavy. One night carrying it into the house, so the bear wouldn't get it, I smacked my knee into it walking up the steps and got a bad bruise.

I know you would have had to replace me if I was in its place instead of the feeder :)

I have seen photos (produced by world-renowned nature photographer Albert Karvonen, who lives on a nature reserve in our region) of a bear that climbed up a pole to a platform bird feeder to eat the seeds! He could barely (bearly?) fit!

Bears can be entertaining to watch and they are so cute ... from a distance. But they can also be so dangerous. :-)
