Most music fans enjoy music of all varieties ... but even so, we often tend to have a preference for a certain style or for a certain performer or group.

Let's talk about it!

Post anything about . . .

- Your favourite music style ... or

- Your favourite musician or group ... or

- Your favourite album or CD ...

I find enjoyment in a variety of music styles and genres, although there are some I enjoy more (classic rock and also '80s), and there are some I don't enjoy as much (rap, with some exceptions).

Although music of the Beatles (as a group and from their individual careers) is high on my list of favourites, I would have to say that the performer at the top of my list is . . . (drum roll) . . .

. . . David Bowie!

I think I have more Bowie records and CDs in my collection than any other single performer, even the Beatles!

Cyndi Lauper is another performer high on my list (notice that both Bowie and Lauper came to prominence in the 80s?)

I think what caught my attention with Cyndi is the music videos in the 80s that accompanied her popular tunes. She was so full of natural enthusiasm, it was infectious.

In the past 10 years or so she has released a couple of other CDs that I have enjoyed as well, including "At Last."

I've mentioned my spouse in one or two other discussion groups here at IM faceplate. So, here is another story about her and yes, there is a music tie in, lol.

When we got married we lived in the Big City and I traveled across town through heavy traffic to get to my day job. I had plenty of time to listen to music on the radio and at that time, in the early 80s, the band REO Speedwagon was popular.

They had a lot of good songs, but two that were most meaningful to me were Can't Fight This Feelin' and Keep on Loving You.

I was so in love with my spouse, being recently married, and whenever these two songs came on, for some reason they touched me deeply and all I could think about was getting home to my sweetheart! (How romantic, lol.)

And to this day, 30 years later, every time I hear those two tunes I still feel the same way!

Do you have any favourite songs that mean so much to you for some reason? Please share.

GT :-)

Yes I do GT. It is a song called Try Again by Champaign.

I believe that the reason I love this song so much is because at the time I was very much in love with a man I was dating, and it was a song we both liked. It always makes me think about him and I guess I still have strong feelings for him.

I just get so emotional when I hear it even now.

Go figure because I haven't seen him in quite a long time. I guess if I do I will probably remember 'our song" when we were dating and how we used to dance together when it was playing.

Talk soon GT.

Hi, Terri. Thanks for sharing your song and the background to why it means something special to you. I can relate.

Although I have been very happily married for more than 32 years, there are several songs from an earlier time before I met my wife, when I was in another relationship, that still bring back feelings when I hear them.

I have no regrets about the decisions I made at that time and in the time since, but as you have mentioned, it is interesting how those feelings can still be there after all those years. Our emotional make up is such an interesting and complicated thing!

. . . And for some of us, music plays such an integral role in our feelings and our memories.

David Bowie released his 24th studio album on March 8, 2013, titled "The Next Day" - What do you think about it, Bowie fans?

I do not yet have a copy of the CD, but I've heard a few tracks and since I am a confirmed Boiwe fan, I like what here...

... However, so far I have to disagree with fans who are saying that this is Bowie's best work yet and that the music is radically new (or something like that). The track I've heard sound like they are a continuation of his last one or two CDs.

In my opinion, as a confirmed Bowie fan, the music is great. The lyrics are great. BOWIE is great!

But the style and presentation of the music is not really new or that much different then what I've heard from Bowie before.

What say YOU, Bowie fans?

As I said, I don't have the CD yet and therefore have not heard all of the songs, only a few initial releases from the CD.

GT :-)
