LOL, that's quite a family you have there!
Where I live, we don't have ghecco, mongoose or wharthogs. but we do have an assortment of other wild animals I like to think of as "pets." Deer, bear, squirrel, porcupine, moose, about 20 or more species of birds at various times of the year. We have seen muskrat, bobcat, skunk, bats. Of course, we often see cats and dogs that come from nearby neighbours. We've had stray horses and pigs run through our property. Except for the wild birds, we don't intentionally feed any of the animals. However, the deer pass through once or twice a day to eat up the sunflower seeds we put out for the birds. A few years ago, we put out wild bird seed, too ... but that REALLY attracted the deer and they began knocking on the door, asking for more (I'm just kidding!) But it did get expensive feeding them, so we cut it back to just sunflower seeds and I don't fill the low bird feeder late in the day anymore, either. LOL GT :-)

Yeah,
How wonderful that must be! We can only see wild animals if we go to game farm or reserve. You know, these animals(pets) cannot look after themselves once you take care of them, so we HAVE to take care. I just love being surrounded by nature in all its forms Enjoy your day Rene

Hi, Dee: lol, My wife and I always joke that the birds seem to line up on the feeding platforms when they are empty and stare at us through the kitchen window, as if to plead for more sunflower seeds. (They don't, really, but we make that joke because we feel awfully guilty when they come and there are no seeds left.) Actually, although we don't have any that do it right now, chickadees can get quite friendly that way. Once they get to know you, they will hang around you when you're outside and even land on you looking for food. I haven't hung around with the current ones enough for them to get that friendly, but it wouldn't take much. And the deer! They startle easily and run away, but it's funny because in the evening, at dusk when we can still see outside but we have to turn the kitchen light on, they will come to the bird feeding stations and eat any seeds they can find and they will watch us through the window. It seems like as long as we stay on "our" side of the window, they will put up with us. If you turn the door handle on the porch door, they're gone like a shot! I did have one momma deer a few years ago in the summertime who would come to one of the bird feeders even while I was sitting just a few feet away from it. She was wary, but she would come to the feeder. GT :-)

Hi All
We have a large variety of animals that visit the property. The most interesting being bears that come right down to the bird feeders a few feet from the house and eat the sunflower seed. It amazes me that something so big bothers with these tiny seeds but then again baseball players eat them ... lol This is a link to the bear that visited this past summer, you may have already seen these from another post http://picasaweb.google.com/lthrwood/Bear# There are deer, raccoons, possums and turkey that like to get the sunflower seeds. The squirrels are the worst. If they have no bird seed to steal they come right up to the door and climb up to the handle and make a racket. We cut down on the seed and got some with pepper in it that the squirrels are supposed to not eat but they manage. The night life is my favorite especially owls :) Just thought I would add my 2 cents here. Have a great day all Marisa

Hey, Marisa: Owls! Now I am jealous! lol I forgot to include owls in my list because, although we HEAR them, we rarely see them! But fortunately, we do on occasion. Mostly Great Greys, but others on a rare occasion. And the occasional hawk and bald eagle, too. Our squirrels get bold, like yours. I have a hanging bird feeder on the wall close to the porch door. We had one squirrel that spent days practicing a run up the door and a leap to the feeder. He made it once or twice, but eventually gave up because it was a long fall to the cement steps below ... and we have one of those old-fashioned metal mud scrapers embedded in the cement that he might have landed on sometimes, too! GT :-)
