Does Your house Smell like Your Pets?
I just published a new Article here on IM Face Plate check out my profile and Read the Article. If you have found any other ways to keep the pet odor down post them here or as a comment on my article. One thing I would like to get comments from our members is: What brand of Cat Litter do you find works best? With Multiple Cats the cheaper brands just do not seem to help. Post what works best for you here. Thanks Dee

Best cat litter for multiple cats I have found is Cat's Pride...
Fresh Step is pretty good but more expensive. And I don't care what tidy cat says their multiple cat Cat litter does NOT work well with over a dozen cats.. hehe

I don't think it's so much about the choice of cat litter as about emptying the litter tray frequently. I take out the soiled litter as soon as I see it's been used, and we don't have any problems with smells. Also, I replace all the litter and scrub the tray about once a week.

Yes we always wash the pan out with a deodorizer before adding new litter in them.. Helps out alot on the smell.
My allergies go nuts if the litter box is not changed every other day..

Years ago, before getting married, I owned a mobile home (house trailer) and had four rambunctious cats who liked to stampede from one end of the trailer to the other, back and forth, chasing each other. I had to change the litter box regularly and I thoroughly cleaned the tray and the room each time ... plus kept an air freshener in the room (before I realized that such chemically produced fragrances irritated my sinuses!) At that time, I lived in a trailer park in the Big City, so I seldom let the cats outside, except on closely supervised occasions, one at a time. I don't recall the trailer having a cat odor ... but then again, it was MY house and MY babies, so maybe I just didn't notice? lol GT :-)

In reference to the Pet Odors. Besides Idjit (she has'nt had surgery yet) We have a cat with a fungual infection that started with a cat fight. In order to see she gets he meds we have to keep her penned up. I hate that. I like outside cats and no litter boxes.
To the point! I bought a good scoopable litter and while looking all of the products over I also purchased and Arm & Hammer litter made of corn husks, totally biodegradeable. Both left something to be desired. I combined the two together! Still clumps, far less odor and mess. Cat seems to like it and between the two containers I spent somewhere in the 30 dollar range but I am into my third month and have about a quarter of the mixture left. So, the cost is not prohibitive. A friend uses stuff from Dollar Tree because it is "Cheap". She has spent almost a third again in the same amount of time.

I do like the Tidy cat scoop litter for multiple cats, but I only have one cat right now. I buy the big 35lb size in the plastic bucket. Another thing is that I don't use a regular cat litter box. I bought a deeper container that would hold more litter. It's not much wider than a regular litter box only deeper. With the deeper box the soiled litter hardly ever reaches the bottom and it is easy to scoop out.
I also scoop out any soiled litter when I notice it or at least every other day. After a couple of days of scooping I will add litter to replace what was used. Doing it this way I only have to replace the whole thing maybe once a month or once every 6 weeks. With the deeper litter the bottom of the litter box stays clean.

That is the one I use plus arm and hammer corn-shuck bio degradeable. I also use the deeper litter box. Kitty makes less of a mess of it. I don't like the covered litter boxes. I seem to have too much trouble sevicing them. In the long run I find the scooping oftener and adding every few days it is true I usually do not have to clean completely oftener than 6 to eight weeks, thereby actually saving money. I also use recycled plastic grocery bags for disposal. My neighbor and I had quite a discussion about her idea of scoopable litter dumped in vacant lot between our houses. I made her clean it up! How inconsiderate. She isn't very happy, but Oh Well!
